Why didn"t the shear bolt shear?.Is your PTO shaft sized to the H.P. of your tractor or the H.P. of the bush hog gearbox? Most of the time the gearbox is rated higher than the tractor but I twisted one up one time with a 100 horse tractor on a light duty, 40 H.P. gearbox bush-league pig and I retrieve it was considering centrifugal force got the shaft before the shear pin could salve it.

I use the ''chinese'' bolts that dont have any markings on the head because I want to make sure they shear before I tear up something more than expensive. Mine takes 1/2'' x iii ane/2'' bolt and I always use lock nuts and snug them upward because a loose commodities will shear piece of cake and it tin become aggravating quick.

Aye, I bought mine locally (St Deject, MN) only Agri-Supply has a skillful selection. Had to cut the drive shaft off but that depends on tractor/cutter spacing, yous would have to figure that out yourself. I added a snap ring groove because I still run a shear commodities (gr2) on one side and without a snap ring the shaft could come right off. Works very well!
